Their players maybe over 35 but Royal Albert Veterans FC proved that they could mix it with the younger generation by setting the pace to win the Sporting Leagues competition at a drenched Portsmouth Greyhound Stadium in October.
The weather certainly did not dampen spirits however, and the winning club turned out in force with over 45 GSL participants present on the night. The club secretary Steve Stewart was in bouyant mood during the night. He commented "We were never going to let the rain stop us from having a fun night out, and we won the competition so we enjoyed ourselves even more! I shall let more veteran football sides know about scheme to raise money for their respective clubs as I know they can all do with making a few bob. Of course, the night itself is a great excuse to get a few drinks down as well!"
Other particpants on the night included members from Travaux Youth FC and Solent Basketball which typifies the diverse range of clubs that 'Sporting Leagues' caters for. There are still a few places left for clubs so you are involved with a club then get invovled!
